Welcome
I’m Christopher Shear and this is my personal website. I’m a doctoral student living in the Western Cape province of South Africa. My major field of study is that of informatics/information science. I plan to specialise in the field of business counterintelligence (BCI) for my PhD. In a nut shell, BCI acts as an encapsulating umbrella containing a selective subset of security activities. It therefore acts as a support mechanism for intelligence processes – through the use of internalised offensive and defensive ethical procedures – to neutralise potentially harmful legal or illegal information gathering activities; targeting one’s organisation.
I know many undertake post graduate study in order to pursue a career in academics and perhaps the same can be said for me to some degree. However there is a twist. It is my intention to maintain links to academia but at the same time to use and develop my skills in business too. I do not want to limit myself to one particular “career sphere” alone. I think it is important that ties be maintained between business and academia, rather than developing in isolation from one another.
